In IELTS Writing Task 2, there are several different types of questions that can be asked. These include

 

1. Opinion essay:

This type of question requires you to give your opinion on a topic and support it with relevant examples and evidence.

Example: Developed countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than financial aid. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

 

2. Discussion essay: 

This type of question requires you to discuss both sides of an argument, presenting the pros and cons and giving your own opinion.

Example: "Some people believe that university education should be free, while others think students should pay for their education. Discuss both views and give your opinion."

 

3. Advantages and disadvantages essay: 

This type of question requires you to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a particular issue or topic.

Example: "Many people now work from home instead of going to an office. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?"

 

4. Problem-solution essay: 

This type of question requires you to identify a problem and propose a solution or solutions to the problem.

Example: "Many people in cities suffer from air pollution. What are the causes of this problem, and what solutions can be proposed to address it?"

 


5. Direct question essay: 

This type of question requires you to answer a specific question or questions directly.

Example: "Do you think that advertising is a positive or negative thing?"

 

6. Double question essay: 

This type of question requires you to answer two or more questions in one essay.

Example: "Some people think that mobile phones should be banned in public places such as libraries and theaters. Do you agree or disagree? And why?"

 

It is important to carefully read the question and identify what type of question it is so that you can structure your essay appropriately and address all aspects of the prompt.
